Dog Pearls..who would have thought?!

Dog laundry… I have learned to love. It was hard to find joy in this weekly chore but I have found dog laundry has it’s own fun surprises…

Dog Pearls!

Dog Pearls!

As you can guess the bedding that is used to make our furry guests comfortable gets a bit dirty and hairy. Especially when you have a bunch of Labrador Retrievers or Bernese Mountain dogs in house.

I know in the pearl world, the color and size of the pearls depends on its type of oyster or how long it has been growing inside of the shell.

Dog Pearl Bed (my washing machine)

For us, it is the same concept. Our pearls depend on how much hair is in the bedding. The color of fur that has been deposited and of course where is is positioned in my washer.

We have found they come out in all shapes and sizes.

As you can see some are small, others are large.

They are dark and light. Tightly woven (very valuable) or a loose weave.(not so valuable)

To find the perfectly round ones (that are nice and tight) are far and few between.

All Shapes, Sizes and Colors.

They are considered priceless!

I have been saving them for the past couple of months. I have quite the collection already. I’m sure you would be impressed.

I plan to make my daughters prom necklace out of them.

I’m sure she will love it! :0)

Girls are so worried about being duplicated by another girl at the dance.

I have been drug all over the Portland Metro area to find “THE” dress that no other girl will be wearing.

I promised her… NO OTHER GIRL… will have this kind of accessory.

If I keep my laundry skills up I may have enough for a pair of earrings too!

Gross to Beautiful… It’s Just How You Look at It

It was late at night when Derek and I were able to get out to run the dogs. Our children’s homework got the best of us, so we were a bit late. It is so dark out there without any street lights around. We have 2 big spot lights that we shine over the runs and one overhead light down by the kennels.

Excuse me, You have a touch of slobber on your face...Let me get that!

Excuse me, You have a touch of slobber on your face…Let me get that!

We need more lights but that is still on the list of things to do.

Derek and I were visiting because the last run of the day is the least busy. Dogs are tired and we are out there to get that last potty break done.

We were at the far end of the run…away from the lights. I turned around and across the dog run were a of bunch of sparkles…like little prisms everywhere. I called to Derek. ..”Turn around!”

As Derek turned around, he was also shocked by all the sparkles.  Six dogs had drool dripping from their mouths…some almost reaching the ground. It was like they had all stopped to compare each others drool talents. The lights were shining through them all. Changing this normally gross scene…to beautiful.

It was amazing how the lights sparkled through all that spit!

It reminded me of that Pollyanna movie when she hung all those prisms in that crabby lady’s window….

It is always good to see the positive in all things!

It’s not Brain Surgery…Or Maybe It Is

So last week was very interesting…

We had this yellow lab dropped of on Wednesday. Trudy is here for “who knows” how long.

The owner had called and asked if the reservation could be a little open ended because she was going in for a “procedure” and she was not sure how long she would be in the hospital. We are happy to adjust as needed.

Kasey and Trudy

On Wednesday the usual 15 minute drop off took almost an hour. She kept starting up new conversations…. then she would have to say goodbye to Trudy…then we would talk again …then she would have to say good bye again… either way, her good bye with Trudy seemed a bit over the top. :0)

Thursday we get a call from the hospital…It was one of the nurses that was attending this gals operation.  She was admitted for brain surgery and has to remain awake during the procedure. She talked the nurses into logging on to our Facebook page so she could watch her dog play during that particular window of time.

She proceeded to give me the time frame and we made sure Trudy was posted (a lot :0) so she could watch her playing with her dog friends.

I have not heard how the operation went…but hopefully we posted Trudy long enough to make her smile while her head was cut open….

Everyone likes a Pinata!

I’ll tell you…it has been a rainy down poor here in Tualatin for days! Sometimes I wonder if I need to build an ark of some sort.

The dark has been bugging me… so I thought I would reflect back when the sun was out.

Who doesn’t love a Pinata!

A couple years ago in May, we decided to hold a Golden/ Labrador Retriever play date.

With Cinco de Mayo in the air, we decided to treat our friends to a pinata.

We had no idea how our dogs would react to such a activity.

We stacked a couple bails of hay so we could get some height. Filled a pinata dog with a bunch of different dog treats….and gave it a whirl!

We have done it a few more times since then…just because the dogs seem to have such a blast.

My human kids like to remind me that I have NEVER provided a pinata for them.

Not for birthdays, graduation, holidays….NEVER!

I tell them….”You are more than welcome to join the dogs.” I’ll even throw some human treats in there. :0)
